Aedes mosquitoes, which spread dengue, breed in small amounts of clean standing water around the house. Fogging kills adult mosquitoes; larviciding and removing breeding spots stop the next generation.
Where they breed
Flower pot trays, roof gutters, aircon drip trays, pails, discarded containers, and anything else that holds water for more than a few days.
How the treatment works
Breeding spots are checked and treated with larvicide, then the garden, drains, and shaded areas are thermal-fogged. Fogging is usually done at dawn or dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
Good to know
When dengue cases are reported, the local council or district health office carries out its own fogging in the area. Private fogging covers your own premises in between.
